How The Cotton Cupboard Came to be:
In 1976 I received my first sewing machine, given to me by my mother, Dee. I sat at her feet sewing straight lines while she sewed beautiful clothes and quilts for all of us. In 1979 I pieced together my first quilt. I loved cutting and piecing, as best as an eight year old can. I am not sure if it was the art of quilt making or the time with my mother but it was a wonderful experience. I later took classes in school and within the community to sew and quilt. I enjoyed every one of them. I found sewing peaceful and full of self expression. I continued to sew for my children and our home all through the years, 33 now to be exact. I knew one day I wanted a shop of my own. I struggled with what that shop would consist of, yet keeping my mother in mind it didn't take long to figure out. The Cotton Cupboard is centered around education, quality, environment, creativity, community, and the "at home" feeling only my mother could provide. So stop by for some fresh baked cookies and admire some of my mothers work, for she is the inspiration behind all we do here at The Cotton Cupboard.
